The More Effortless the Technique Looks, The More It Hurts

Kung Fu Lessons Online

It’s not how big your muscles are, nor is it  how tough you are that matters. What matters is how skilled you are. Skill trumps muscle every day of the week.  This Wing Chun video clip you are about to see was uploaded to you YouTube in 2010. Sifu Phu Ngo teaches the basics of using a Huen Sao, for those of you that don’t know what that is… It’s simply a circling motion done with your wrist.

It has many applications…

We didn’t start uploading videos to YouTube with the idea of starting a site like Enter Shaolin, it was really to see how people would respond to Sifu Phu’s teachings. It was because of the response we got back from videos, that I finally believed Jamie, that people not only needed something like Enter Shaolin, but actually wanted it too!

To learn more about what we do and how we do it, check out our free 5-day video course and eBook here.

So what decides whether you should Huen Sao against a pull/grab rather than Bong Sao bearing in mind a punch is likely to be coming in either case?

Very excellent understanding of energy and ability to explain it. Many people only know the technique and fail to understand what is going on at the core, energy-wise, which is fundamental to ALL techniques. Also, there is a nice absence of ego which is refreshing on the internet. Good teachers can not allow the ego to creep into their instruction.

For anyone reading this comment who has been studying ANY style/type of martial art, these principles, that Sifu Phu is explaining, are valuable lessons. Very few people understand the energy component and even fewer can explain it concisely and to the point as Sifu Phu.

I have no connection whatsoever to Enter Shaolin, but have not come upon any video or other internet instruction that explains the energy of martial arts so well and TRUE. This is rare. Most teachers want to keep this knowledge for themselves and their students.

The reason I’m saying this is to give credit where credit is due. Nice job putting these videos together and explaining what other teachers cannot explain or do not want to explain.

when the punch towards me is so fast , my tap / intersection is not reliable anymore. i can not guarantee that i can establish contact to or just to stop the punch.
what is the technique in catching speeding incoming punch ?

The best advice I can give you is to not chase the punch. Rather rely on using good technique.
