I hope you and yours are all well. We had a very interesting week here at Enter Shaolin, as South New Jersey and neighboring states got hit hard with a fast and furious storm this past Tuesday (June 23rd, 2015). Thankfully while it was furious, it was fast, so it did not linger long… Which meant less damage for all involved.
Just in NJ, there were 100’s of thousands of people without power, which if you checked your inbox this week, than you already know we were part of that tally. We also lost internet and mobile phone service too. It was quite interesting for a bit there, we even thought we were witnessing a water spout about to taker formation in the lake right behind Sifu Larry’s house, which is right behind the building we use to film and do our work for Enter Shaolin. Literally everything started swirling and as we were about to head to the basement, it stopped!
Thankfully no one got hurt here and as far as we have seen from the online reports, no lives were lost in surrounding areas or states. Thank God for that!
I am also super grateful that Sifu Larry and his wife had a generator, so we were able to keep the bare necessities running like having water, lights when needed, fans to cool down the place and keep the refrigerator going to not lose any of our food.
It was funny because we still couldn’t run everything at once, we had to be super efficient and pick what to run when, for instance to take a shower, we had to turn off everything except what the person was using in the bathroom and even then, that person had to be fast because the well pump and water heater were both very taxing on the generator.
In this process I gained a new shower routine that I am keeping even though the power is now back up and going. To mitigate not being able to leave the water running a long time, here is what I did:
- Turn the water to a little over lukewarm, then soak my hair and body & soap up my scrub brush.
- Turn the water off, then wash my hair and half of my body.
- Turn the water back on and rinse off, plus re-soap up my body brush.
- Turn the water back off and condition my hair and wash the other half of my body.
- Rinse off with lukewarm water, turn to cold and rinse one more time.
My bath time maybe took not even 5 minutes, I saved water and energy and I found it way more refreshing than my normal routine of leaving the water on the whole time. I normally rinse off at the end with cold water, so this part is not a new addition.
So, I figure if it helps me be more alert, feel more cleansed and refreshed plus saves resources, it’s a keeper and a win-win. On the days I do not need to wash my hair and condition it, I save even more resources and time.
I think my body feels more cleansed because the soap gets a chance to actually sit on my skin for a bit vs. when the water is running the whole time it is gets rinsed off faster. The extra alertness is from going from water on to off several times.
You should give it a try and see how it works for you. It’s like Sifu Phu’s wake up body slapping routine, but for cleansing your body! 😉
Another good thing that came from all these outages, is Sifu Larry and I were able to mastermind about the future of Enter Shaolin and some changes we have been considering to better serve you and new family members in the future. More on all of that soon!
Now on to the webinar…
As we said in the email we sent earlier this week when everything went crashing down, we might have to reschedule this month’s webinar and unfortunately we are going to have to. 🙁 The next available day to get everyone together for this live webinar is July 10th. So, if you weren’t going to be able to make it tonight, no worries and if you were, we are sorry!
I changed all the dates and info on the webinar page, so your new notifications will go out properly for those of you already signed up. If you haven’t signed up already, you can sign up for The Complete Wing Chun Sil Lum Tao Breakdown by clicking here.
Now for more good news, thankfully Sifu Larry already had this week’s new lessons edited and ready to go, so in case you were worried that you would have to wait for new lessons because of the storm… Well, you won’t!
