Hey brothers and sisters! How are you this week?
We started the Ketogenic Diet and have been dealing with some technical difficulties of bodies not adapting to change as fast as we would like them to…
I’m not going to lie, it’s been another very character building week. If you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, check out last week’s character building week here. 😉
Sifu Larry and I as of 9/8/15 began our journey to get into a ketosis state aka we are eating a ketogenic diet (though we consider this more like a lifehack tool for life). In short that means we are eating even more healthy fats than before, plus eating way less carbs (30-50 net carbs) and even less sugar (only naturally occurring in whole foods sugar plus a little raw honey due to allergies) and did I mention really low amounts??? All in order to switch our body from using carbohydrates as fuel to using fat as fuel instead. Also, I think Sifu Larry is realizing he might have been eating too much protein and not enough fats which has caused him to miss the mark on where he has wanted to be.
In short, there are a lot of benes. and realizations on both ends in just a few days. It will be interesting to see how week 2 and forward are. The good news is we are not calorie restricting and we are not hangry (yes, that’s suppose to say hangry) and though we are not calorie restricting we are eating less calories than before, just because we get full quickly and we aren’t as hungry eating this new way. Interesting and awesome. 😉
The not so good news is our bodies are being a wee bit resistant to this change and haven’t fully flipped the switch over yet to burn the fat as fuel. Meaning we are kinda in a proverbial limbo. Which means some brain fog has taken over off and on throughout the day and for Sifu Larry headaches on top of the brain fog. Oh and we’ve been sleepier sooner in the evening.
That last part is a great thing as we’ve both been trying to adopt an earlier bedtime schedule to be able to be up earlier and be more efficient with our days.
Thankfully, I was also able to help Sifu Larry to overcome the headaches in this transition period by having him add Himalayan sea salt to his water so he is getting enough trace minerals while his body is flushing everything out.
It’s been a struggle with the brain fog to get everything done each day, but we are not the type of people to just throw in the towel and quit!
I’ve had some interesting developments in training this week as well. Like I gave Sifu Larry a bruise for once (usually I’m the one getting them) and he wants to buy focus mitts because my hits are now drastically more penetrating and they are hurting his hands or any other spot I hit for that matter. He only let me hit his chest once, normally he tells me to keep going.
You know your punches are getting better when your Sifu or training partner wants some padding. 😉
And… That’s not all, I finally am able to bench press the 35 lb. free weights! I was stuck at 25 lb. for about 6 months and sadly we had no 30’s to gradually work my way up to, so that’s a 10 lb. increase. BOOM! This past week was lots of strength, tendon snapping and energy control increasing going on up in here!
It might not seem like much, but each little advancement in this thing we call Kung Fu is a serious achievement and if you haven’t been doing the happy dance or celebrating your achievements no matter how small they are, change that today PLEASE AND THANK YOU! Your hard work should be celebrated. 🙂
So tell me… What advancements and increases have you been experiencing lately? Share with me down in the comments section below!
