Hey everyone! Sifu Larry here…
Before you guys and gals check out this video on wrist locks, I want to give you a little back story on why I am releasing the second half.
Back In January of 2015, I uploaded a 6-minute video on YouTube, it was a preview of one of our member videos we filmed in 2014 when we first opened up our website.
I thought it would be nice to share a sneak peek of what one could expect once becoming a member.
At the end of the video, I added a little blurb about how if they would like to watch the rest of the video, you could find it at our site.
And recently we have had some rather disgruntled people be upset about it being only a preview.

Our Wrist Locks Controversy
Like we were stealing from them (it’s free!?!), not providing any real value (umm, what!?!), or trying to be tricksters (you can join or not, the choice is always yours). It’s been kinda crazy, to say the least.
Jamie did not really know what was going on, as I usually take care of the YouTube comments unless a comment is directed to her personally.
She got railroaded a bit a few days ago by a person that recently signed up for the free 5-day course and had not received lesson 2 and they also said something about needing the rest of the wrist lock video… There was much more to it than that but, moving on.
To which Jamie was perplexed because neither lesson 1 nor 2 are about a wrist locks. Once she got a hold of the fan she was able to help him out and that was when she realized what video this person was getting upset about, This person told her it feels like we’re trying to pull the old bait and switch.
So she went to check out the video while wondering, “Why is this person insulting all of our hard work?” We are honest and upfront, are people really that upset we need to feed our families too and that we don’t give everything away for free?
This is after all that we do for a living… LITERALLY! And we aren’t rolling in the dough, but if we were, wouldn’t that be a good thing? Isn’t that how it should be!?!?
Do you get rewarded more and more over time for your consistency and hard work? Like a job well done!? Like how your Kung Fu will keep rewarding you more and more over time with your consistency and hard work!?!
Well we aren’t there yet, heck Jamie and her daughter still have to live with our family to make ends meet and our families help each other to repay the favor to each other, in skill, time, help, and/or things that reduce each others’ bottom line.
Do our free wrist locks videos provide value?
But my point is not only is it insane to be attacked for providing value, it’s insane we get insulted for working at doing something we love which is how we choose to feed our families.
We aren’t going to attack you for the work that pays you, so why is this so different in the martial arts arena? I say this because some of the stuff Jamie and I have witnessed is just insane since we started this online Kung Fu journey.
It is this extremely entitled and everyone owes them or is out to get them somehow mentality that we just don’t get or understand.
Sure we’ve seen it elsewhere on the internet, but it has been heavy in this section of the world. I guess we just don’t expect that type of behavior from people who are supposed to be cultivating their chi and therefore their minds. Kung Fu will refine you if you put the work in.
We know no one is perfect, we just expect better manors from said people in the martial arts community.
But anyways…
What I can tell from re-watching the wrist locks video is it provided value, if you actually listen and apply it, there is enough to work on right there. It wasn’t the complete lesson, but it wasn’t devoid of lessons.
These shorter clips are like the crumbs, they are not insignificant, but they can still fill you up and add substance; meaning there is plenty to learn for free.
If you want just free, we are cool with that. However, those that want to learn more from us and want to fund our efforts of providing amazing Kung Fu online, well we love you guys and gals and appreciate that greatly.
Going back to the blurb at the end of the clip… Jamie did point out that it would have been better to put a slide at the beginning specifying it was a preview of one of our member’s lessons and a slide vs. text at the end of the clip to reiterate how they can get the rest.
So since I didn’t make it as obvious as I could and in the spirit of giving more value to the community whether you want to support our cause or not…
Here is part 1… The originally released YouTube video of “4 Basic Wrist Locks”:
Now you can be the judge. Where you are able to learn something about wrist locks from this, let me know in the comments at the end of this post. 🙂
I would like to warn everyone in advance… I’m not a professional video editor and have been learning as we go on this journey.
Jamie gets upset when I don’t run ideas, especially graphics by her before editing, and that is something we have been working on so we can get our message across more clearly.
Because clearly, I did not make this clear enough the first time around! LOL
However that being said, when we put stuff on YouTube it’s free content. When someone gets upset because they can’t get the rest of the video free and insists on spamming or insulting us… I just have to wonder why!?
After all, we spend hundreds of hours a month keeping Enter Shaolin and the videos flowing with our number 1 priority is keeping both our members and list subscribers/fans happy.
And we are always looking at how to provide even more value for those wanting the free lane and those who see the value in what we do and choose to invest in themselves and us.
Special thanks again to those that make contributions to our dream and help us upgrade equipment and keep improving Enter Shaolin!
This video footage on this page is from 2014, we’ve upgraded our camera lens, how we film, and our mic among site upgrades since then.
So just so you know our newer content is even better and we have plans to get even better footage for you once we raise the funds to upgrade again. 🙂
Here’s the full “4 Basic Wrist Locks” lesson that only members could see until now:
I hope you enjoyed getting to see the whole wrist locks lesson, let us know what you think in the comments below.
I would like to ask for your forgiveness if you feel we are cheating you in any way and know we are always learning and growing too.
When you invest in Enter Shaolin, you are investing in yourself and us! You are investing in your martial arts, your health, and your life!
Every dime we have goes to operational expenses, helping us keep Enter Shaolin running, getting new equipment, and other things needed to keep upgrading what we do, and yes…
You help us feed our families too. But again why should that be a bad thing? We work hard too, it just happens that we work doing something we love. Shouldn’t we all choose that?
One of the upgrades we are looking to do as soon as possible besides upgrading our camera/filming gear is selling DVDs as many have asked for them.
We listen, we hear you! However, we need to buy better equipment. For us to get better equipment we need to bring in more members.
We are always re-investing the money we make back into Enter Shaolin. And we have only scratched the surface friends and family!
Even where we film needs to be upgraded. The studio needs a new ceiling and a new floor.
The good news is we are growing every month and we are excited about what we have in store for you.
The point of this rant is it blows my mind that people who are getting free stuff rather than being grateful instead accuse us of things like spamming and bait and switching them.
In short, we get beat up often, for providing value and doing our best to put something in the hands of people that would never have the opportunity to learn this stuff any other way.
Related Questions About Wrist Locks
Do Wrist Locks Work?
The short answer is yes, of course, they work. The longer answer is it really depends on a few factors.
- Are the wrist locks already there to be taken?
- Do you understand where to channel the energy in a wrist lock?
Once you have the person in a wrist lock it’s too late for them to escape. However, if you don’t have it sealed correctly they are easily countered.
How do I stop my wrist from locking?
Once a wrist lock is applied successfully there is no escaping the pain it’s going to cause you. The best way to counter a wrist lock is to feel it happening and counter it before it’s fully locked in.
You can do this with parrying/deflecting techniques or you can do this by channeling energy. (More about channeling energy in the Ngo Dac Na section of our training vault.
Can wrist locks break your wrist?
If the wrist lock is applied properly I doubt a person’s wrist will break unless the person doing the locking decides to break it.
Generally speaking the pain from the wrist lock is so painful it stops a person in their tracks and they are at the mercy of the person doing the locking.
With that said, yes it’s very easy to break a wrist if it’s in a wrist lock.
Are wrist locks effective in BJJ?
I’ll go one step further and say I believe all martial art systems have wrist locks. A wrist lock is a wrist lock it doesn’t actually matter the martial art. But yes wrist locks are effective in Brazillian Jujitsu.

Hey you guys;
I have really enjoyed the free stuff you guys sent me.
I am not a practicing martial artist. I stumbled onto you guys and have watched some of your videos.
I think you guys are giving too much free!
But I understand what you are trying to do and there is nothing wrong at all with it.
I wish I had the time to spend to learn from you guys and if I was going to get serious about martial art I would join with no hesitation.
Keep it up it will pay off
Sifu Larry says
Hi Derek, thanks for being a subscriber 🙂 Keep your eyes on your in box we will keep sending you goodies…

Hi Larry,
Just want to say thanks for all the great work you guys do. I really appreciate the free lessons and understand that you can’t give everything away for free. That’s now how life works. You deserve to make a living, just like everybody else.
I hope to become a member someday. I haven’t joined yet because I have nobody to train with. I need to join a local wing chun gym first, which I’ll do when I have the time and money.
All the best,
Tony
Sifu Larry says
Hey Tony, thanks for commenting. We realized that having a training partner is one of the harder things to come by when training online. That’s why we make sure to put a lot of solo training drills inside the membership. In martial arts you need to train three 3 things.
– Working on your structure and forms
– Developing your power and timing
– Training your technique and application
You can work on the first two without a training partner. Eventually of course you are going to want someone to train with so you can learn how to deal with non compliant energy.

Sorry to hear this, most things in life are not free, someone usually has to put some work into it for others to have it for free. But many people don’t realise this… As long as there is selfishness, envy and greed, there will not be peace. There will always be some people that watch a video with their eyes closed, and then complaining about not seeing anything. Keep up the good work you guys=) And for those who can only get the free stuff, make the best out of it and appreciate it=) someone has usually put work into it so you can have it for free=)
Sifu Larry says
Thanks Sverre !

Hi, Larry and everybody at Enter Shaolin!
First of all, BIG Thank You for the first 5 free lessons! I’m at the moment at no. 2 and loving it! I think I will be able to join you next month!
I’m 60 years old/young and fit and I so appreciate young people taking the initiative to start a new business even in economicaly adverse times. You will win!
I obviously value your expertise and all the free videos you put out, your website and everything else that you put so much effort in! It shows!
Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there, young and old, sick and confused, mentally handicapped etc. And they all have access to the internet. Does it surprise you then, if you get such negative emails?
We also get them and I guess many others working online also get them. We have learned one thing: We do not give power to those negative people EVER. Their comments and emails get deleted upon receipt – finished.
We have the confidence, we are friendly and work hard and earn money on the internet with our expertise and we appreciate each other!
And over the years I have also noticed: Negativity doesn’t survive long on the internet, but hard working, friendly people do!
Greetings from Sunny Spain! 🙂
Sifu Larry says
Hi Antje, first of all thanks for the support and enthusiasm. It doesn’t surprise me, but it does sadden me sometimes to see just how much scarcity mindset runs rampant in the world.

Hey Larry, Thanks for all the great videos! I trained chin na with Sifu Phu when I lived back east. Watching the videos bring back a lot of great memories. Currently i am in cali practicing wing chun which is the only reason I have not subscribed to your channel yet. Just don’t have the time right now to concentrate on my current studies as well as your program. Hopefully more time will allow me to do this in the future but until such time I really appreciate the training tips.
Sifu Larry says
Hey Tom, your welcome. Thanks for following us.

Thanks! We are happy to be of service.

Larry
Keep up the great work. I learned early that you can never hope to please everyone, therefore I just concentrate on doing the best that I can. You cannot walk into any martial arts school and start being taught for free for more that a handful of lessons. You guys have a ton of free great YouTube videos and that’s how I found you. I don’t have the time to go to a school so learning from you guys at my own pace has been great. What you guys charge is almost a give away already. Let someone find this kind of knowledge for a better price.
Sifu Larry says
Hey Marlon good to hear from you 🙂 How have you been? We really do want to make sure that Enter Shaolin is affordable for everyone.
Patricia says
Hi Sifu Larry,
I’ve been a member for 10 months and it’s one of the best investment I’ve ever made. I always come away from your site feeling much more inspired than before logging on. You, Sifu Phu and Jamie give me hope that in this constantly evolving art I can get better by hard work and practice, not only with my fellow students but in my solo drills as well. Quite often I feel my understanding of energy principles or a certain technique opens up my mind, like an “ah ha” moment or epiphany. An open mind can evolve and grow. I believe it’s when we stop “growing” that we age. So you see, your site is also a “fountain of youth” for me! There are two kinds of people in the world…givers and takers. Everyone at Enter Shaolin are givers. It’s evident in your generous spirits….good people for sure!
If any of you ever travel to Hawaii, please email me. I would be thrilled to meet you and take you out to dinner (besides touching/rolling hands 🙂
Love and aloha across the miles,
Patti
Sifu Phu says
Hey Patricia, so glad you are loving the site. We do our best to give you guys top quality videos. We would love to go to Hawaii if we could get a seminar out there. Would love to go eat and roll with you too. 🙂
Patricia says
Okay, it’s a date then! Looking forward to your updates as long as you keep ’em coming. Lovvvvve them!
Sifu Larry says
Thanks for the kind words Patricia.. I have family in Hawaii 🙂
Patricia says
oh cool! It’s a possibility you could come here then! Probably more so than me going to visit Enter Shaolin. But I’ll never say never…
Keep building on the site and they will come!
Sifu Larry says
Thanks Patricia 🙂
