Extra Mook jong Training
We tested filming the mook jong from different angles. Here are some extra clips that we captured on film. The jong techniques you see are part of our Muk Jong sets.
If you like the video feel free to share it 🙂
How do you use Mook Jong?
‘Wooden man’ or ‘wooden dummy’, Mook Jong, is a translation of the Korean name. When faced with such a formidable foe, you can use all of your might. This does not imply that you should use the dummy to exercise your arms by slamming it into it as hard as you can. Learn how to properly position your entire body on the dummy.
Instead of hitting the dummy, caress it gently while practicing on it. Your touch with the dummy will grow heavier as your body unity and biomechanical principles of movement improve. You’ll be able to get the most out of the dummy if you do this.
“If you want to be a lion, you must train with lions.”
― Carlos Gracie, Sr.
It is generally agreed that the mook jong is the most advanced skill in Wing Chun. As a consequence of this, the vast majority of people who are learning Wing Chun believe that mastering the techniques of the Wooden Dummy will immediately make one a skilled Wing Chun combatant.
Some even brag to the younger students about how proud they are of themselves and what they’ve accomplished in their academic careers.
All of the mook jong moves are useful for combat in their own right. On the other hand, such moves are actually constructed from the fundamental movements of Siu Nim Tao, Chum Kiu, and Biu Jee. They are not exclusively held by the Wooden Dummy alone as their owner.
Additionally, the only thing that can stop you is your own lack of comprehension and creative ability. I feel that the beginning of successful training is when you start thinking creatively about the problems you are trying to solve.
Similar to “art” in all its manifestations. It will not be a part of you until you start becoming one with your tools and until you become a live, breathing representation of the art. Until then, it will not be a part of you. Therefore, make it a goal to be able to smoothly transition from one technique to the next.

Great video! Looking forward to seeing more wooden dummy training!
Have you considered using a Gopro camera on chest mount and head mount?
This would give us a great view and we would be able to see the moves in details from how Sifu sees them.First person view =)
I also had some questions in Enter Shaolin Update: 5-16-14 about the wooden dummy I was hoping Sifu could give me some good advice?
Thanks and have a good weekend =)

Hi Sifu Phu =)
I’m looking at investing in a jong and have seen a Jong with Recoil Reaction Stand from warriormartialartsupply amazon? When first investing in a jong would it be worth getting this one? Is it a better alternative to the original? Do you have any other suggestions? Could you tell a little about the benefits of having a jong?
Thank You =)

Hi Sverre, I had replied to you a week ago, and but apparently it didn’t go through, sorry about that. In terms of the go camera, I think it would be nice. However I think it would be hard to learn from. we are trying to work out the best angles so it would give you the best possible view. the go camera would only keep it at one angle and 1 view. Since I am moving around the Jong, you may not see it that well from a steady point, especially from for the footwork part. In terms of the Jong, I did look at it from Amazon and I would suggest you look at this site, http://www.Shaolinhouse.com. My student bought his here at a fairly good price.
The guy worked with him and said he could even custom make it for him if he wished. The one from amazon seemed a bit overpriced to me but if you got the money, then I guess it wouldn’t matter. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions write to us. Sorry this came late, I did write to you last week but it never went up somehow. I must have done something wrong. My apologies again. We try to answer everybody’s question in a timely and prompt manner.

Hi Sifu Phu=)
No problem, better late than never=) It looks like the guy from Shaolinhouse knows his stuff! Realy good reviews! So I think I will go for your suggestion and contact him. Thanks for the tip=)
Regarding the gopro/action camera my thoughts were to use it as an additional view up in the corner of the video. Just to cover more angle’s =)
Thanks!

We were thinking the same thing!!!!

Hey Sverre! We do plan on having more camera angles in the near future, though right now we do not have the budget to do so. As we can, we keep upgrading equipment and resources though!
The budget is one part of the equation, also the extra time to edit video and process the video is another obstacle at the moment.
Larry and I are going at all the technical stuff, marketing, graphics, customer service, etc. alone. Looking forward to when we can have a bigger team backing Enter Shaolin. For now, know we are working around the clock and are adding more value, more resources, etc. as fast as possible!
Keep up the feedback, we love hearing from you!
