Basic Ground Fighting Techniques
In these short videos on ground fighting, Sifu reveals some golden nuggets of truth. I found this video sitting on my old video camera and I am glad I took the time to go back and organize my footage. I believe I recorded this one back in 2009. I am not sure why it never made it to our YouTube channel…
However, I figured I better share it with you!
I have often heard people from various ground fighting camps say that Kung Fu doesn’t work on resisting opponents. I know for a fact that part way through this video you can clearly see Bill (the guy being demonstrated) stopped cooperating.
He was countering, while Sifu was giving a lesson. He got a little froggy as Jamie would say it. 😉 What is interesting is how even though Sifu was dealing with an uncooperative person, he still managed to control the situation while continuing to teach at the same time.
If you ask me… I’d say… That’s wild!
This video is also a good example of sending a person’s energy back into them in basic ground fighting. This is very effective when dealing with bigger and/or stronger opponents.
Is there anything Sifu doesn’t know about fighting?
If there is, we haven’t found it yet! 😉
Hallo family,
thanks for this video, sorry I was busy the last days, but I run through it and train.
That´s for sure.
Thorsten S
You are welcome Thorsten! Happy training!
Can you connect me with someone to workout with in n.y.c please.
Hey Domingo! Thanks for visiting. We are located in South Jersey. As of right now, I have no recommendations for your area… However, we offer training online. If you have not got our free 5 day course and Ngo Dac Na ebook yet, please go here so you can get a sample of the training we provide: http://www.entershaolin.com/ebook
I took the 5 day course already. What I need is someone to work out with in order to practice them I can’t become a member pay for the classes if I don’t have someone to practice with, sorry about that. Just like you I have been looking for this all my life and I’m 55 years old now . I studied Wing Chun when I was a teenager and I was a natural at it.
How can I post a question in your Enter Shaolin community webpost. Maybe I can find someone to practice all the classes.
Hey Domingo! I completely understand your concern… However, we set up Enter Shaolin with the solo practitioner in mind. While obviously some drills are best suited to have live energy aka a partner, much of what we offer does not require this. We also just got a new training tool that is much more affordable than a jong and is perfect to practice drills that one might otherwise need a partner for. (More info on this soon!)
Personally Domingo, while I am grateful and blessed to be working on this site and project in person with Sifu Phu and Sifu Larry… I once was where you are, where I had no one to train with and if I was still in that position… I can say with complete confidence that not only would I find value with Enter Shaolin, I also would have plenty to learn and practice before I would ever have to have a partner.
Like I said, we know not everyone has a partner, so we are diligently working at finding more drills and ways for the solo practioner to be able to learn and grow.
We have a 14 day money back guarantee and our price is at the lowest it will ever be, so if you want to check things out, please do.
I’m 32 and I know for me personally, it’s been a long time coming on finally being able to train. So I can imagine your pain of looking for even longer than myself. I would hate to have you delay such training even longer over what is really a non issue.
As far as reaching out to others, the best place to do that might be on our Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/entershaolin
As the site grows, we do want to add a way for members to connect with each other on a local level. We are still figuring out the best method of operation for this.
If I can help in any way, please let me know, Domingo! Have a blessed weekend.
That was crazy!
In many cases, a demo is very different to a real combat situation.
How many times have you seen a demo and asked yourself “Will this work in a real fight?”
or just under your breath saying “that will never work if this… or that…”
Of course the good thing about a demo is having a controlled environment, where the instructor shows one or a few techniques and breaks it down.
This requires the cooperation of the demo assistant, to bring out the points and show the effects.
But what if the assistant refuses to assist?
How many instructors have what it takes to really demonstrate their skills in a non controlled environment?
In a real fight? To fight for control and maintain the demo as a teaching session, and not just a spectacle?
As opposed to some of the instructors who would just find excuse after excuse when met with this kind of embarrassment, Sifu Phu proves how high his skill level is by maintaining total control and domination of the demo, not just without the cooperation of his assistant (demo partner), but who turned to fighting him instead.
That’s the real deal.
Total control and dominance regardless of opponent.
That’s the magic of NDN (and Sifu Phu’s years of hard work and commitment to it)
Absolutely Danny! This is a perfect example of what can happen when a person loses their temper and the controlled scenario is no longer controlled. It was definitely a surprise attack and I think Sifu Phu handled it well. The more I learn and experience Ngo Dac Na, the more I am amazed. Such simple tweaks to how we move and deal with things that great huge change.
It is awe inspiring, but to reach that level of mastery takes a lot of time and practice.
Well now we all know what to look forward to lol
EXCELLENT!! Even though the opponent thought he was getting the best of Sifu, Sifu’s mastery of his technique prevailed.
Hi sifu, please can you do a full video on rattan rings form, i love this because its not expensive, but i wished i had a wooden dummy. way too much money, so i bought a rattan ring but dont know how to put all the moves together. please do a form on the rattan ring.
Alan
That was indeed wild. I would love to see more videos where Sifu’s students put on protective gear and demonstrate real attacks and non cooperative dynamic training situations. It’s becomes all the more clear why his techniques are fundamentally real and effective.
Sifu i would like to join … questions:
can we earn rank ?
the 5 videos you sent me free, is this part of the program or do i start from the beginning?
$28.00 per month???
weapons training?
their is a wooden ring about 9 inches in diameter, can you show that as part of my program?
MARTIN
Southern Cal.
Hey Martin, below you will find the answers to your questions…
1. We do not have ranks.
2. The 5 videos are a primer/intro to the Ngo Dac Na system. Our site is broken down into types such as Tai Chi, Wing Chun, Chin Na, Qigong, Ngo Dac Na and C.O.R.E. training. (Ground fighting and women’s self defense coming soon.) Each type is broken down into forms (if applicable), drills, techniques and sensitivity. The lessons start from the beginning and build upon each other.
What is currently in the membership site, is not all there will be as we add 4-5 new lessons each week.
3. It’s $27/mo, $297/year or $997 for a lifetime membership. These prices are the lowest they will ever be as we plan on raising them in the near future. However, those that signup at these prices are locked in at these rates.
4. Weapons training and rattan training are not currently on our site, however are in the works for future training.
Hope that helps! Let me know, if you have any other questions!
Stop the Tip and you stop the tail demo was outstanding ! This was what I was looking to see as most of my training was not ground fighting. Thanks.
We are glad you enjoyed the video Oliver 🙂
It was very impressive how Sifu controlled the opponent while still giving the lesson! It appeared that the hoodie Sifu was wearing caused a great hindrance for Sifu and he would had had a much faster control of the opponent without it. I know Sifu likes hoodies a lot but they are a big handicap in a real situation. This video shows the great quality of Sifu’s teaching and the effectiveness of it!
I took a couple days off and started practices on throwing punches with my tendons verse muscle. Fast and coordinate. I liked the ground fighting with the wrist lock! I am going to practice that tomorrow. Thanks.
You’re Welcome! Enjoy…
