Hey family we have this week’s update ready for you. It’s around this time when people who made new year resolutions to get in the best shape of their lives start falling off the horse so to speak.
This happens because they look at health and wellness as a weight loss goal instead of as a way of life. This is ultimately why so many start falling already so soon after making their resolution. The only way you or anyone else will make a meaningful change in their health and wellness is by making it a lifestyle.
This also goes for me, I remind myself regularly that deciding to have a healthy lifestyle is a choice. Every week I re-challenge myself to exercise more, eat better and do more to positively impact my life and the lives around me. Some days and weeks it feels like I am just struggling, but I know in the end I will get to where I am going.
One of the biggest reasons why I decided to pick up the electric guitar again after 15 years of not playing it was because I have gotten to a place in my life where I want to keep my mind sharp. I don’t particularly like to read nor do I enjoy puzzling solving games. I do however enjoy picking me some guitar. 🙂
This time around I am focusing more on increasing my skill and understanding theory. I put the guitar down to focus on developing my skills in martial arts. Now I am in a place in my life where I can take some time and focus on re-discovering the instrument I fell in love with so many years ago.
I put down the guitar so I could focus all my efforts on becoming a better martial artist and learning how to become a better internet marketer. There simply wasn’t enough time for me to also focus on becoming a better guitar player.
Fast forward to today and I have put in the time, effort and money into my crafts. I feel that I am able to once again pursue my passion for music without it interfering with Enter Shaolin, my health, etc.
We don’t have much time here on earth, some of us less than others. Sije Jamie shared about her mom’s death at the young age of 52 in this past week’s update and how her martial arts training has helped her through the grieving process.
I am 42 and I feel like maybe I am finally a teenager in life. I am ready to start learning and discovering all the wondrous things that the world has to offer. I am ready to push my abilities to their limits. I don’t want to be one of those middle aged people who bicker and cry about how this hurts and that hurts and when I was younger etc…. Because everyday you wake up is a new day to start over. Every day is a new opportunity to do or see something amazing!
In everyday normal life routine stuff, I see how martial arts has impacted my life positively. I will apply the discipline and focus I developed in my martial arts to my musicianship.
I will apply martial arts training to my nutrition and I will be that guy who will be 110 yrs old and doing 50 push ups a day just because I can!
You can decide to lay down and let life beat you down or you can decide to fight back. You where meant to do amazing things you just have to allow yourself to believe it is possible. Whatever it is you want to achieve for your life, you can.
Enter Shaolin to me is more than just a martial art membership site. Enter Shaolin is a family of people who support each other and encourage each other to be our best. We are here for you!
Because of you we are here. Just as much as we inspire you, YOU inspire us to be more and do more. Our vision is to make a positive change in people’s lives all over the world. With your help we can 🙂
This week we started up with our night time kung fu Q&A. So you now get two opportunities a week to get more help and also to watch the replays to get answers to your questions and maybe some ones you haven’t thought of just yet.

Hey Sifu Larry –
Your guitar playing sounds really great! And that was a great article that you wrote. Very inspiring. Us “lifetime learners” need to always keep at it, eh?
I too am a guy who’s had a lifetime on again – off again passion for music, and particularly for playing the guitar. It’s a great outlet, isn’t it?
You mentioned that you wanted to “rededicate” to your guitar playing and your understanding of music theory, etc. I did this a few years ago and found a really super book that really helped me. (Kind of like how Sifu Phu’s explanations just “super get Kung Fu explained simply, but thoroughly”.
Anyway, here’s the book’s title if you have any interest in checking it out.
“The Everything Music Theory Book” by Marc Schonbrun.
Thanks for everything that you do at Enter Shaolin! What a great group of fine human beans… 🙂
Best,
Doug
Thanks, I’ll look into it.
