Welcome to another edition of Sifu’s Corner. In this video, we talk about what martial art styles we teach.
What is important to understand about us is that our style is the Ngo Dac Na system with influences of Wing Chun, 5 Animals, Tai Chi, and Chi ‘ Na.
More importantly, we study how energy works with the body.
What that means is that the style of martial arts isn’t as important as how you use the energy within your martial art style.
Watch our video to better understand where we are coming from.

Sifu,
I have practice tai chi for while and enjoy it a lot. I have always wondering how can you yield in tai chi without compromising your structure. Any information would be helpful. Thank you again for your time.
Sincerely,
Angelo

Hi Angelo. Studying push hands can help you learn how to yield to greater force.
Kermit says

I may not have moved too far through the course yet, as this point may be addressed in future, but I am wondering whether some aspects of sparring could be discussed. In particular it seems that the system receives force well and diverts with control an opponents energy, this favours a more rooted stance. But in combat one is moving constantly, monitoring distance and will also attack extending oneself. Can Sifu explain more on practical aspects of combat stance and transitions that he favors according to the principles of Ngo Dac Na.
Kind regards and thank you.
Larry Rivera says
Hey Robert, we will be doing more on that topic in the future.
LaTausca says
Thank you for this explanation of your system and energy.
Jamie Pelaez says
You are most welcome LaTausca! 🙂

I have been practicing Yang style tai chi for approx. 4 yrs; and I just recently started to learn the Chen style.
Initially, I took up tai chi for the health aspects of it; however, over time I started to have an interest in the martial applications of the art. I figured if I am going to spend an hour a day practicing a martial art, then I might as well learn how to use it. I sought out, and found, a teacher that includes the martial aspects in his classes.
As I recently became a member of Enter Shaolin, I have started to incorporate your principles into my practice. In a short period of time, I feel that my tai chi is definitely more structured and effective.
Thanks.
Sifu Larry Rivera says
Thanks Dean, we are glad the site has been helping your Tai Chi practice.

I am a fan of Sifu Phu because it is readily apparent that he understands the “hows and whys” of martial arts movements and energies. I am a Sun and Yang style taijiquan instructor who teaches taiji as a martial art to those who choose to go in that direction with it. I also practice and teach karate. Why do I bring this up? Because one of my goals is to reconcile hard (wei; karate) systems with “soft, nei”, taiji, Bagua systems. Sifu Phu DOES this and explains why and how. All martial artists could benefit from his approach.

Thank you brother, Larry for sharing your experiences with us. And use there is a balance in all things. The beauty of Ngo Dac Na, is it’s a system based on physics and energy principles that can be applied to any style to enhance what one already does.
